Congressman Llyod Smucker, along with 67 other Representatives in Congress were praised by the Dairy Industry for calling for action on Canada’s dairy policies.
The Representatives sought to get Canada to lower tariffs on U.S. dairy exports during the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) negotiations. The bipartisan effort sent a letter to Canadian Ambassador Robert Lighthizer, urging him to level the playing field to give U.S. dairy products a chance in the Canadian market.
If the policy were to be changed, it has the potential to create jobs across the country, and help to support the nearly $200 billion industry that already employs 3 million workers.
